The Bugatti heritage was passed on after World War II, and the company gradually resumed its range of activities. In fact, it began to establish itself as a major aeronautical equipment supplier, as a subcontractor to Hispano-Suiza. In 1963, Hispano-Suiza purchased the company from the Bugatti family, and assigned it the task of manufacturing landing gear for the first French and European commercial jetliners: Caravelle and Concorde. The Molsheim firm was now a full-fledged member of the aviation industry. Hispano-Suiza and Messier: two French companies that were competitors at the time. When the French aviation industry underwent its first major restructuring in 1968, Hispano-Suiza became a division of Snecma - which meant that Bugatti, in turn, became a subsidiary of Snecma. During the following years, the landing gear business sector (including related equipment, in particular wheels, brakes and hydraulics) was consolidated into a single company: Messier-Bugatti.
