Introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 1933, the 3.3-litre Type 57 touring model was destined to form the basis of all future output from the Molsheim factory until war intervened in September 1939. Almost everything about it was new, contributing significantly to a more refined motor car than all earlier models of the marque. Its chassis had a longer wheel base and a wider track than the preceding Type 49. The engine was similar in basic dimensions to predecessors but was much more modern in design. For the new Type 57 model the factory offered a choice of the Galibier four-door saloon, the Ventoux two-door coupe and the Stelvio cabriolet, although the latter was, in fact, mostly built by local coachbuilder Gangloff of Colmar. Alternatively, the cars could still be supplied in completed rolling chassis form so that their agents or clients could select their own coachbuilder to execute the construction to their own personal requirements.
