Not Hispano, it was Messier - Bugatti for a long time, it now has been recently renamed to Messier-Bugatti-Dowty (see: http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20110502-701684.html) all part of the Safran group.

It seems that the Germans did some searching also on the factory grounds, when it was occupied, maybe also for the airplane or parts of the airplane. Does anybody know if they found something?

If the Germans did find anything, it must have been documented. They were Germans, after all.

Anything mentioned in documentation about Hans Trippel?

Being France,it would be vital that the imputus for this search comes from Association Bugatti Alsace.This must not be Carter at the tomb of King Tut.And no question of the remains being sold,it would have to go to the Schlumph museum.

Just consulted Norbert Steinhauser.

He never heard any story from nobody to support the history that Jean's crashed car would have been burried on the factory grounds.

Furthermore, he thinks it would be highly unlikely that the car would never have been found afterwards, with all the building, cable laying etc. that has been done since 1939. It may have even been that, if found, it was just sent to the junk yard.

However, no conclusive evidence either, that the car is not present somewhere......

A story told to me by Freddy Wurmser. His father Lucien built a miniature airoplane during the war-years. Allegedly the alumium came from the crashed 57C. I think either Freddy or his brother Roland still have the plane.

Plausible. Which tells us the car might have been scrapped and remelted (for the most part)
